typing practice — free, no account

A quiet, ad-free touch-typing tutor. Learn the home row and letters, build real speed on words, sentences, and sustained speed runs, then take on numbers, symbols, and real code — Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Every lesson tracks your words per minute and accuracy. No account, no login, no sign-up: your progress is saved locally on this device and never leaves it.

questions

Is plaintxt typing practice free?

Yes — completely free, with no ads and no account. It is a quiet corner of plaintxt.app, open to anyone.

Do I need an account or sign-up?

No. There is no account, login, email, or sign-up. You can start typing the moment the page loads.

Does my progress get saved?

Yes, locally in your browser. Streaks, stars, and best times are stored on your device only — nothing is sent to a server, and your progress is not tied to a plaintxt identity or account.

What can I practice?

A full path: the home row, the top and bottom rows, the whole keyboard, and capitals — then common patterns, real sentences, tricky words, and sustained speed runs, before you take on numbers, symbols, and real code (Python, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS).

Does it work with Dvorak, Colemak, or a split ergonomic keyboard?

Yes. Pick your layout (QWERTY, Dvorak, Colemak, Colemak-DH, Workman, AZERTY, or QWERTZ) and a standard or split ergonomic keyboard. The on-screen keyboard and finger guide follow your choice, the home, top, and bottom row drills use your layout's own rows, and each keyboard keeps its own stars and best times.

Does it measure words per minute and accuracy?

Every lesson tracks live WPM and accuracy, awards up to three stars, and remembers your best time, so you can watch yourself get faster over the days.

Does the typing trainer work offline?

Yes. Once you have opened it online, the trainer is cached and works fully offline — the lessons are built in and your progress stays on your device.

How is it different from other typing websites?

No ads, no account, no tracking, and a calm terminal aesthetic instead of mascots and pop-ups. It also teaches real code, not just prose — useful if you spend your day in a terminal or an editor.

burn clears saved progress on this device only. settings (theme, sizes, sound, keyboard) stay.
