terms of use
plain language. last updated: April 2026.
// using this service
by creating an identity on plaintxt.app you agree to these terms. you must be at least 18 years old to use this service, or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction if that is higher. if you do not agree with these terms, do not use the service.
// prohibited conduct
you may not use plaintxt to:
✗ harass, threaten, or abuse other users
✗ send spam or unsolicited bulk messages
✗ distribute malware, exploits, or phishing content
✗ engage in illegal activity of any kind
✗ exploit or harm minors in any way
✗ impersonate others
✗ attempt to circumvent rate limiting, abuse controls, or block enforcement
✗ use automated scripts to flood, scrape, or attack the service
// your responsibility
you are solely responsible for what you send using this service. plaintxt cannot read your messages and cannot moderate message content — only metadata and reported behavior. this means the responsibility for lawful, respectful communication rests with you entirely.
// service availability
plaintxt is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind. we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, message delivery, or that data will not be lost due to infrastructure failure. messages are designed to expire — do not use this service to store information you need to keep.
// message expiry
messages expire and are hard-deleted automatically. this is a core design feature, not a bug. do not use plaintxt as a record-keeping system. we do not provide message backups or exports.
// screenshots
plaintxt cannot technically prevent screenshots or screen recording. any deterrence features are visual only. the responsibility for not sharing or recording conversations you receive rests with the individual user. consent matters.
// abuse enforcement
plaintxt uses automated rate limiting, block-count penalties, and report review to detect and slow abusive behavior. accounts triggering repeated blocks, spam patterns, or abuse reports may be throttled or disabled. we reserve the right to terminate access for violations of these terms.
// paid plan billing
pro and power subscriptions are billed monthly through Stripe and subject to Stripe's terms of service in addition to these terms. refunds are not guaranteed and are handled case-by-case. cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period.
// changes to these terms
we may update these terms. material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a revised date. continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance. since identities are ephemeral, we cannot notify you directly — check this page periodically.
// governing law
these terms are governed by the laws of the United States. any disputes arising from use of this service will be resolved under applicable US federal law and the laws of the state in which plaintxt.app operates. by using this service you consent to this jurisdiction.
